the show actually sent us, they sent us the script ahead of time. in fact, they sent us the rough edits. so we sat with a psychiatrist in our office for a second round to review every episode, which is very rare for a network to do and they did an excellent job. we then collaborated with samhsa to develop a public service announcement. we got permission and samhsa helped us develop a script. and this psa featured this gorgeous young actress who was the woman with bipolar disorder in the story referring young people to a special landing page, a web site. and we tracked the traffic. there were huge spikes the day of the show and the day after this psa aired. and kids actually could enter discussion threads. and there were some really heart-breaking stories in there; kids who said, "i've been telling my parents for 2 years there's something wrong with me; now i know i have bipolar disorder, they don't believe me." well, in this case it was one of samhsa's partner groups, they had trained therapists in the discussion group who could actually refer kids

temperatures and some use global climate models and some both. there are lots of future greenhouse gas predictions. there was a brief period of time around the time of the national assessment in the year 2 thousand that we hoped we would see more flows in the river but if you look at the study recently out of university of washington, one has to have a pessimistic outlook on what future flows look like in the colorado river. my colleague marty produced one as well. that show as 50 percent reduction by 2030. i'm not sure i believe that but if you think the river is going to get more water, you might be living in, la la, land. two problems. one in lower basin and one in higher basin. if you look that bottom line the net balance is a minus one point 4 million acre feet per year. that's going in there on average and that's not doing to change in lake, powell, and the out flows are 14 million acre feed with that in that system , it doesn't take long to see you will have a problem with average hydraulics. in my state there's this great terror that some

this panel invited us into a very unsettling way of framing the discussion those of us steeped the fight. we assume this is inevitable and we're focussing entirely on how to respond to it's impacts. this is a discussion that we absolutely must have because we're in a race against time. as we know, we're already feelg the impacts of global warming and things going to get worst before better so its the job of global managers to plan for the worst and that's what we're here to talk about today. among the issues, what impacts are we most concerned about, what adaptations are necessary and what models or in the analysis are they planning to do and what initial things do they need for future decisions. our discussion takes place against a political backdrop here in california where leaders in both parties recognized the importance of including global warming in our strategies you know the governors water proposal called for 4 and a half billion dollars. sites reservoir and tell mperance river. together these would provide five hundred thousand acre feet of water supply but their being promoted
